What are the possible ways to travel to Koh Samui? What are your options and where do these options originate? How do I get to The Sarann?
OK, since we’re talking about an island, the options are limited to pretty much 2 modes of transportation — plane and boat. You can add car to that, but it requires getting the car on to a ferry so we are grouping that in as boat.
Plane:
You have Bangkok Airways which has a monopoly on Samui airport (USM). So if you want to land on the island, this really is your only choice. Bangkok Airways flights to Koh Samui is renowned for being very pricy compared to other domestic flights in Thailand. Most of the time, you’re looking at about $250 USD for a return flight from Bangkok (ouch). Otherwise you can fly to Surrathani airport, on the mainland, get a car/van/bus to take you to Don Sak pier and take the ferry across to Koh Samui. This is definitely a cheaper option but it will take you almost a whole day. AirAsia flies this route and even has the option of arranging land transportation to the pier for you.
